Mission
Create a city-wide campaign which celebrates the rich built and literary heritage of Edinburgh and the contemporary relevance of the pivotal Scottish Enlightenment.
Project
Working with artists, designers, technicians and engineers, I project managed the creation of six digital projections illuminating historic buildings including the Melville Monument in St Andrew Square and the iconic Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Projection mapping, animation and 360° cameras were all employed to illuminate quotes from key Enlightenment figures including David Hume, Adam Smith and James Hutton.
Alongside this, I commissioned contemporary writers and Scottish historians to create new works of flash fiction, poetry and a series of historical introductions to the period which were freely available to stream or download.

I managed relationships with national and city government departments as well as national marketing agencies and our Business Improvement District community to drive footfall to the area and promote literary and cultural tourism in the city.
Reach
The project had a combined footfall of 400,000 spectators in its 18-day run, plus thousands of video views and millions of impressions in our multi-platform social media campaign.

The project campaign ran across print and digital media. We created a custom website and hashtag, incorporating public polls, social media events and competitions for a cohesive identity across multiple platforms.
Highlights include a photography competition with Blipfoto [a winning shot can be found here], a series of free walking tours, live performances of the commissioned stories and poems, and a press launch with Councillor Deidre Brock, Convener of Edinburgh City’s Culture & Leisure committee and Deputy Lord Provost.
